Angela Hoyt, 34, was working for the Red Cross and had just returned from a three-month trip to Pakistan when she was brutally murdered.
Her body was discovered by police at her home in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, on Tuesday afternoon, after her family became concerned.
Detectives are now searching for her ex-boyfriend, Martin Collet, 35. He has not been seen since her murder.
He is known to have connections in Stratford-upon-Avon, Southampton and Bristol.
A police spokesman said: ‘Officers urgently want to trace Mr Collett but I would like to reassure members of the public that we do not believe he is a threat to anyone.’
Last night, Miss Hoyt’s devastated parents flew in to the UK from Canada to identify her body.
