Breastfeeding Reduce Breast Cancer Risk

A woman's risk of breast cancer is higher if one family member had cancer. Therefore, women in this group are strongly encouraged to give their babies breast milk.

In the long-term study of 60,000 women, known to women who have a history of breast cancer in close relatives (mother or sister), has decreased a significant risk if they are breastfeeding their babies.

"Breastfeeding is not only good for babies but also the mother," said lead researcher Dr.Alison M. Stuebe from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA.

Conclusion This study obtained from a study of 60,075 nurses who had just given birth and participated in the study Nurse's Health Study that took place between 1997 and 2005.

At the end of June 2005 is known to have 608 women (approximately one percent) who had breast cancer at the age of about 46 years. In addition the researchers also reported that close relatives of women with breast cancer, the risk was reduced by 59 percent when they are breastfeeding their babies.

Decrease in cancer risk was more pronounced in women who have a very high risk and hormone therapy for breast cancer prevention. Whereas in women who have no history of cancer is not known a link between breastfeeding and incidence of cancer.

However, Stuebe found that women who do not breastfeed, but taking drugs to suppress milk production, has a cancer risk 42 percent lower when compared with women who do not breastfeed or do not use drugs to suppress milk production.

According to the researchers, if a woman does not breastfeed, breast tissue will be back as the time before pregnancy and this can lead to inflammation. Inflammation is known to be very progressive associated with breast cancer.

"Our hypothesis, women who breastfeed or production-suppressing drugs to prevent breast inflammation," said researchers in a report published in scientific journals Archieves of Internal Medicine.

Unfortunately, there are some women who consider the benefits of breastfeeding for infants are often considered outdated and damaging form of the body.
