Can Still Breastfeed While Pregnant?

Many mothers who feel worried to continue breastfeeding her first child while pregnant with the second. Can pregnant women still breast-feeding her child?

This caused concern because of fear of causing early contractions or a nursing child kicked the pregnant mother is. Sometimes so many mothers who tried to wean her daughter who nurse while pregnant again.

The most makes mom worry is the occurrence of contractions while nursing her child. This contraction occurs because the nipple stimulation releases the hormone oxytocin into the bloodstream. Oxytocin is important when breastfeeding because a chemical that tells the network serving the mother's milk for the contract. Research conducted by Sherrill Moscona in 1993 to 57 nursing mothers during pregnancy in California, concluded that breastfeeding does not lead to obvious consequences for pregnant women.

Although not known with certainty what the impact caused when pregnant mothers continue breastfeeding, mothers should stop breastfeeding her child if you have some signs of following, as quoted from the Pregnancy:
  1. Contraction experienced more than 4 times in one hour.
  2. Feeling the pressure of the pelvic bone.
  3. Experience such as menstrual cramps.
  4. Increased discharge from the vagina as mucus, blood or water.
  5. Pain in the lower spine.
Thing to consider is the need for mothers to rest should be adequate, considering the weight gained during pregnancy and overall sense of well-being. This was done to determine whether breastfeeding can be painful or agitating the pregnant mother, thus leading some mothers to wean the child is breast-feeding.

It is important to note is that milk production is declining since entered middle age pregnancy. But the key to understanding whether breastfeeding is safe during pregnancy from the uterus and oxytocin receptor itself. Because uterine cells can detect the presence of oxytocin which causes contractions.
