The frequent use - we are talking about an average of 8 times a year - and lowering the age at which one begins to use them - around 15 years - combined with the spread of temporary tattoos has helped to increase the occurrence of allergy. One of the main reactions are: redness, itching, irritation, burning or even breathing difficulties and anaphylactic shock.
The biggest seems to be the defendant parafenilendiamina, an ingredient used in hair dye that is in temporary tattoos. But the list of defendants also included other ingredients such as resorcinol, diaminobenzene, etc. This type of chemicals are currently irreplaceable in the colors of permanent or oxidative bearing more than 24 shampoos or have an average duration of 6 weeks here, for now, the risk remains.
To limit the risk of allergy, the European Commission has decided to undergo a thorough revision of the permitted substances and their concentration limits. In addition, to inform consumers of possible side effects and reduce their risk, it was decided to change the labeling of hair dyes.
These are the two main recommendations of the experts :
- When not in use: do not recommend the use of dyes to those who have already had responses and those who have the unhealthy scalp. For those who did black henna tattoos we always advise susceptibility test because the risk of allergy is higher.
- Making susceptibility test: can considerably reduce the risk of allergy. The test should be done in case of a new use. Recommend it even with the "usual" product, especially when not using it for some time, because it could have changed the wording, but also because the body might respond differently.
