Police hunting a former aide to David Blunkett suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend have confirmed it was his body that was found less than a mile from the scene of her murder.Detectives have been working to identify the man who threw himself in front of a train on Friday night a short distance from where Red Cross worker Angela Hoyt, 34, was found strangled.
Officers this morning confirmed it was murder suspect Martin Collett, 35, who went on the run after Miss Hoyt’s body was found on Tuesday.
A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: 'The body of a man was found just north of Hatfield train station at about 11.30pm on Friday.
'Hertfordshire officers were informed by the British Transport Police (BTP) later that night and have been working with the BTP to identify the man.
'We can now confirm that it is that of Martin Collett, who was wanted for the murder of Angela Hoyt.'
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Ross from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: 'Now we have found Martin, this brings our search to a conclusion and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with Angela's death.'
The Canadian-born communications officer, who also once worked for former Home Secretary Mr Blunkett, was found at the £200,000 cottage the couple shared in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
Miss Hoyt, who had just returned from Pakistan where she had been helping victims of the floods, is thought to have been strangled some time between May 22 and May 24 – days after she reported her ex-boyfriend to police for harassment. Read More
