Jacopo Riganelli is the Second Italian baby to Die in Less than a week after being left by parents in hot car - 29th May 2011

An eleven month old Italian baby boy has died after being forgotten in his parent's car - the second in less than a week.

Jacopo Riganelli had been left in the car for three hours by his father Sergio, 41, who raised the alarm when he returned to the car and saw the baby lifeless.

Paramedics raced to the scene but were unable to save Jacopo. Police are now investigating the death just days after a two year old girl died in similar circumstances.

The latest incident happened in the car park of a yacht club Passignano on the shores of Lake Trasimeno near Perugia, an area popular with British holidaymakers.

Unseasonably warm weather has seen temperatures hit 30'c in the area and officials said given the dark black colour of the Vauxhall Corsa Jacopo had been left it would have been almost double that inside.

Police chief Carlo Corbinelli said: 'We are investigating the circumstances of the child's death and the area has been sealed off while the car is examined.

'At this stage it looks like a tragic accident, we are still trying to establish how long the child was left in the car for, it could have been an as long as three hours but the father is understandably distraught.

'He is in a local hospital with his wife under sedation and we will speak to them as soon as we can.'

He added that Jacopo had died from cardiac failure brought on by the hot temperature inside the car and said that the father would face a manslaughter charge.
