Lava fills Pu'u O'o Crater to create lava lake, Hawaii - 29th May 2011

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has released a time lapse of the lava in Kilauea's Pu'u O'o Crater.

The crater, after that big fissure eruption on March 5, had no lava for several weeks.

Then, all of a sudden, lava came back to the crater floor on March 26 and has been refilling ever since.

In fact, there's now a lava lake, described by volcano scientists as looking like an above-ground swimming pool.
