3 Stages in Childbirth

In the process of giving birth a mother must go through 3 stages prior to the end of the baby could be born into the world. Every pregnancy has a different pattern, including the time required for delivery.

There are mothers who take 10-20 hours to give birth, while there are mothers who need a shorter time than that. As quoted from babycenter, three stages through which the mother in childbirth is:

The first stage: Contractions
After the contractions started coming regularly and relatively cervix started getting bigger, that's the beginning of the birth process. Contraction will be felt more and more powerful and in time the closer, can be started from 10 minutes or so until the end of each 1 minute.

When the contractions were beginning to happen, pregnant women should talk with their husbands or parents and also a little walk around the house to facilitate the birth process. Try to stay relaxed, calm and instill positive thinking about the birth.

If contractions have not occurred but have ruptured amniotic fluid, should be rushed to the hospital so that the baby was not poisoned or drought in the womb.

Not easy to determine how long this phase lasted, because it largely depends on how mature the cervix as well as how often and felt strong contractions. If the cervix is ripe is usually not the first baby, then the process can be faster.

When the contraction was dilated cervix to 10 cm or called the opening of ten, then the baby probably already started to fall and will enter the next stage. The average time taken from the cervix dilated 4 cm to 10 cm in about 4-8 hours.

The Second Stage: Encourage your baby to come out
Once fully dilated cervix, the second stage has begun is to encourage the baby to come out of the womb. If the baby is very low in the pelvis, the mother will spontaneously encourage baby.

But if the baby is still not too down, the mother may not be spontaneous pushing. Should allow the uterus to work until the mother felt a stimulus to encourage, so she would not be too tired or frustrated.

If mothers use an epidural (anesthesia through the spine) usually will reduce the sensation to push, so she will not feel anything until the baby's head had come out a bit. Patience is required in the process of normal childbirth.

The whole of this second stage can last from several minutes to several hours. If no epidural average duration of about 1 hour, but if it had previously given birth is usually much faster. However, when using an epidural generally take longer.

The Third Stage : Remove the placenta
After several minutes of delivery, the uterus usually begins to contract again to separate the placenta from the uterine wall. If you've seen the signs, the doctor will ask the mother to gently encourage the placenta to come out. And this would not be difficult or painful. On average it takes only 5-10 minutes.

Uterine contractions are usually still needed to help cut and close the open blood vessels in the placenta attached. If the contraction is not done, then there could be possibility of bleeding. If mothers want to breastfeed their children exclusively, then the baby will put in the mother's chest to find the nipple and breastfed for the first time.
